Reading-based lighting design and rental company, Blinding Light supplied lighting for a large seasonal ice rink at London's O2 Arena.
The company used a new Litec trussing system for the job, building a 32m x 32m box truss on a 7m high, 8-legged ground support system to surround the 30m x 30m ice rink, which was installed at the O2 between November and March.
There were approximately 80 generic lights on the rig, a mixture of chrome PARs plus 30 intelligent fixtures that included Studio Due colour wash units and Martin Professional moving lights. These were joined by 60 mirror balls of various sizes - including two of 1m diameter - adding a flourish of ballroom glamour.
All the lighting was controlled by an Avolites Pearl 2004 console and all the chases and effects for the disco shows were triggered by sound-to-light inputs.
Once the Blinding Light team had done the initial install and programmed the lights, the controller was left to be switched on each day by the duty manager. The space was also available for corporate events, parties and other private hires, for which Blinding Light supplied an operator/programmer.
The company also supplied power distribution for around the rink, incorporating the DJ, skate hire, bar and portacabin areas and including four new power distribution units that were specially built and specified for the project.
